Caitlin Clark's Double-Double Propels Indiana Fever to Victory Over Washington Mystics

Caitlin Clark's Double-Double Propels Indiana Fever to Victory Over Washington Mystics

Caitlin Clark’s impressive double-double performance helped the Indiana Fever secure an 88-81 victory over the Washington Mystics on Wednesday in Indianapolis, marking their third consecutive win.

The former Iowa star contributed 18 points, a career-high 12 rebounds, six assists, and four steals, achieving her second double-double of the season. Teammates Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell also shone, each scoring a team-high 22 points with an impressive 72.7% shooting accuracy.

This win extends the Fever's home winning streak to four games, a feat they last accomplished in 2015. "It’s huge," Clark shared with NBA TV regarding the winning streak. "When you can stack these wins, it gives everybody confidence. We’re a young group, so I think we’re starting to see our potential and what we’re able to do. I think Aliyah’s been amazing, Kelsey Mitchell has been great. Everybody has been contributing in ways that they need to and it’s been fun. These have been team wins. It hasn’t been any individual that’s been doing it all for us, and when we have that balance, I think it’s really hard for other teams to guard us."

The Fever maintained a nine-point lead entering the fourth quarter, which the Mystics quickly reduced to two points with a 9-2 run. However, the Fever responded with seven consecutive points, regaining a nine-point lead and controlling the game in the final minutes.

“Whenever they went on a run, we always found a way to respond,” Clark explained to NBA TV, emphasizing the team's resilience. “I thought we could have started a little better in the fourth quarter, but we found a way to get it done. The second quarter was tougher for us, they made a few threes. Overall, I thought we just found a way to win, chipped away, didn’t let them get back in it at the end.”

Despite Ariel Atkins' game-high 27 points, the Mystics fell short, continuing to hold the worst record in the WNBA at 2-13.

Clark and the Fever will embark on a five-game road trip, starting with a matchup against the Atlanta Dream on Friday.
