Lok Sabha elections 2024: Breakdown of state-wise results

 On June 8, it's expected that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be sworn in for his third consecutive term. Despite the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections with 240 seats, this falls notably short of their previous landslide win of 303 seats in 2019. This time, the party struggled to translate its vote share into seats, losing over 60 compared to the previous election.


Several factors contributed to this decline. Notably, the Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, made significant gains in Uttar Pradesh, a crucial state in Modi's previous victories. The Samajwadi Party emerged as a standout performer in the Congress-led alliance, delivering its strongest-ever Lok Sabha performance. In Maharashtra, effective collaboration among Congress, Uddhav Thackeray, and Sharad Pawar led to setbacks for the ruling party. Mamata Banerjee also successfully defended her stronghold in West Bengal.
